Robert Britton graduated as an Alexander teacher in 1978.  Bob trained to be an Alexander Teacher with Frank Ottiwell and Giora Pinkas at the Alexander Training Institute in San Francisco.

In addition to his private practice in San Francisco, he has taught the Alexander Technique to musicians at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music since 1984. After 39 years of teaching at SFCM, Bob retired in June of 2023, and is now a Professor Emeritus.

He served as chairman of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) from 1997 to 1999. 

He has helped train Alexander Technique Teachers since 1988.  He contributes to the well being of the international Alexander Technique Affiliated Societies, and the Annual Members Meeting of the Affiliated Societies. Bob has given workshops around the World to Alexander teachers and the public.  He currently serves on the board of the International Alexander Technique Congress Association. 

He was a faculty member of the Bay Area Summer Opera Training Institute (BASOTI) for 15 years, and was a director of the International Congress of the Alexander Technique in Lugano Switzerland in 2011, and a partner director for the Berlin International Congress in 2022. 

In April of 2012 Bob was awarded a George S. Sarlo Award. The Sarlo Award is given for excellence in teaching in Northern California universities and colleges. He has served as the Chairman of the Complete Musician Department at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

He has an extensive background in Buddhist meditation, including ten years of intensive Zen practice.
